Utah Continuing Education Requirements for Mental Health Professionals
Utah requires licensed mental health professionals to complete ongoing professional development (continuing education) during each two-year license renewal cycle.
Utah CEU Requirements (Simplified):

40 hours every 2 years (master’s level)

6 hours ethics/law/tech

2 hours suicide prevention

Up to 10 hours can be self-paced

Leadership, supervision, and consultation can count (with limits)

Keep documentation for 2 years

The number of required hours depends on your degree:

If you complete more than the required hours, you may carry over:

CE hours must be relevant to your scope of practice and completed through approved providers, such as:

You can earn CEUs through a variety of activities, including:

Conferences, trainings, and seminars

Live (real-time) virtual courses

Asynchronous (self-paced) courses (up to 10 hours)

Teaching or presenting (limited)

Clinical reading (up to 10 hours)

Providing clinical supervision (up to 10 hours)

Serving on boards or in leadership roles (up to 6 hours)

Volunteer mental health services (up to 10 hours)

You must keep records of your CEUs for at least two years after your renewal cycle.
Acceptable documentation includes:

If you are a Division-approved clinical supervisor, you must complete:

6 additional CE hours specifically related to supervision
The Division may randomly audit licensees during each renewal cycle. Be sure your documentation is complete and accessible.
