About the event
Migration can be a life-changing experience for children and families, often involving separation from loved ones, loss of community, cultural disruption, language barriers, and significant changes in safety and stability. Even when migration results in increased opportunities or safety, the process itself can create stress and trauma that may impact a child’s emotional well-being, behavior, relationships, and academic functioning. This presentation will explore the unique experiences of children who migrate, including the effects of family separation, acculturation, identity development, grief and loss, and the challenges of adapting to a new school and community.
